Finally a tablet owner!

You could say I’ve been behind the times.  I suppose it’s true, but no longer can you say that.  I have finally entered the tablet generation.

I managed to save enough shekels to purchase the new Google Nexus 7 2nd Generation.  I went back and forth between the Nexus and the new Amazon Kindle HDX and I was really close to holding out for the HDX.  But I didn’t.  My main reason for not waiting on the HDX, and this may sound silly depending on where Google goes, is that I didn’t want to be locked into a watered down version of Android.  I’ve already got a phone that’s kind of crappy, due to in my opinion, Verizon’s extra stuff.  I could root it, I suppose, but I haven’t.

So I’ve had the Nexus for about a week now. As much as I’d like to say it’s done something out of this world it hasn’t.  It basically confirmed what I thought about tablets since the beginning.  In most cases they are entertainment devices.  And that’s basically what I’ve done with it.  It’s not going to replace a laptop or a desktop unless I go to some big extremes.  But it has allowed me to play some games I wouldn’t have played other wise.  So games, Facebook, Fantasy Football App and various other things, but nothing that’s just made me want to scream and shout “Everyone must get a tablet. They are the awesomest!”  Now my view may change on that, but for now…I could do with out.

What’s been your thoughts on tablets?

Political Chatter

I usually try and stay out of politics.  The first reason is that I usually don’t know enough to be commenting on it.  Secondly it has been my experience that it can put a strain on a friendship depending on which side you are on and who you think is better or whatever your reason might be.

As we are going through this government shutdown right now I feel it’s worth writing a little something up on my thoughts and feelings.

This is not about a democrat vs a republican or Boehner vs Obama or whatever it might be.  We need to have a balanced budget.  We can not continue to spend beyond what we make.  Everyone should understand this.  If you spend more than you make, at some point you have to pay the piper.  In the end we need to come together to get this done.  There are going to be sacrifices on each side.  That’s the bottom line.

Secondly each of us, as citizens who have elected these people to office have a couple of duties.  One is to elect them and help them.  The second is to make sure they are doing what we elected them to do.  Yes they may have a large chest of money that makes their campaign that much easier, but in today’s day and age we can make our voice heard like no other.  Make sure that your voice is heard and voice your opinion.  There are quite a few elections for senate and house of representatives going on in 2014.  If you do not think your rep did what they were supposed to do make sure that you do not re-elect them.  My last point on this whole issue is the fact that the people who represent us in DC can not represent just my opinions, wants and desires.  I think so many of us want the senator to get something passed for me.  We want our own personal politician that represents us and not us as a whole/group.  That has got to stop.  Again we need to come together.

I hope that this shutdown ends sooner than later.  But I also hope that in the end we have a budget that we can live within.  If we do not come up with that budget I feel that things may not be as good in the future.
